Bicycle Repair Course

mountain biking repair course Get Mountain Biking have teamed up with MBRS UK Ltd to deliver some of the best bike repair courses in the industry

Each course is instructed by Sam, owner of MBRS and are held close to Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. The Courses are in-depth and very hands on, you’ll get to work on your own bike, with your own tools (if you have them). Each task is demonstrated, then you are given the time and mentoring to perform the tasks on your own bike there and then!

Pre-Booking is essential and courses get booked up approx 1 month in advance, so please plan ahead - you can book online at any time for 2012 courses.

The cycle repair course is suitable for all types of bikes including road, hybrid, children's and mountain bikes.

Basic Bike Maintenance Course

You will learn how to:

• Fix Punctures (old fashioned way and the modern way!)
• Remove and install your wheels smoothly and professionally
• Repair a broken chain
• Adjust and Tune your Gears, range and position, indexing
• Adjust and Tune your Brakes, position and alignment, function
• Basic Wheel Truing, removing buckles from your wheels

We also discuss during the course tools, trailside fixes, emergency repairs, best practices, cleaning techniques, cable replacement and how to assess drivetrain wear and replacement.

No prior knowledge of bike maintenance is assumed and since the day is completely hands on so please bring your own bike with you.

Intermediate Cycle Repair Course

You are expected to know what they bits of the bike are called and have a basic knowledge of working on a bike (such as basic cycle repairs and be able to index gears) however you may not necessarily have completed the introductory maintenance course.

You will learn how to:

• Remove, Inspect & Re-fit Drivetrain components, including Cassettes & Freewheels
• Remove, Inspect & Re-fit Bottom Brackets
• Remove, Inspect & Re-fit Headsets both threaded and threadless
• Remove, Inspect & Re-fit Hubs
• Wheel Truing advanced, understanding spoke tensions and truing

Build your own wheels course

Come and learn how to build wheels - then with your hub, rims and spokes, under close supervision of a Cytech L2 instructor build your own wheels!

You are expected to have a basic mechanical knowledge of a bike and also understand wheel truing/how to take out buckles in wheels. The knowledge gained on our Intermediate maintenance course is fine for attending this.

The course costs £120 and you are expected to provide you own hubs,rims and spokes if you wish to take them away afterwards.

About your Bike Maintenance Instructor

Sam has worked closely with Get Mountain Biking to write two bespoke courses that suit everyone from a complete beginner novice to an experienced cyclists looking to develop their existing knowledge base and become more confident at undertaking the maintenance tasks that modern bikes require.

Sam is fully Cytech 3 qualified mechanic and has his own bike repair business. He currently delivers Cytech courses to aspiring cycle shops mechanics and he has worked in the cycle industry since 1994 for companies such as Saddle Safari, GT Bikes, Xlite, Trek Bikes and many more market leading brands. Sam also runs his local Cycle Club and has been teaching people how to maintain their own bikes for several years.

We can cover wheel building, hydraulics, suspension or most other requests, please contact us to discuss what you would like to cover.
Private or tailored courses are available for groups and bike clubs, please contact us.


Courses are delivered at a bike specific workshop with 6 fully equipped cycle bays. Location for all courses: Bletchley, nr Milton Keynes

Time: All courses run 10am till 4pm

Group Size: Minimum of 3 attendees and a maximum of 8 attendees per course.
