Cycle Maintenance Courses

These courses will give you all the information you need to keep your bike in good working condition and will save you time and cost of taking your bike to the local shop for adjustments and repairs - not to say the satisfaction of being able to service and maintain your own bike.

mountain biking maintenance course The Bike Maintenance courses are taken by a Cytech qualified mechanic and are divided into 2 separate days. 0.1 covers the mechanics required to keep your bike running such as gear set up, brake pad replacement and emergency trail repairs such as punctures and broken chains. Day 0.2 looks at servicing and replacing bearing parts on the bike with indepth look at Headsets, Bottom Brackets and hubs.

No prior knowledge is required for either day and novices are welcome however if you have limited maintenance knowledge it is advised you attend 0.1 first to understand how to handle repairing your bike, taking out wheels and general techniques such as using a torque wrench before looking at more difficult areas of the bike.

The course is also suitable for road and hybrid bikes.


The following topics are covered on the course;

Introductory

Brakes - disc pad and V-brake/cantilever block adjustment and replacement, bleeding hydraulic brakes
Gears - indexing, cable adjustment, limit adjustment
Transmission - chain repair and replacement
Wheels - punctures, tyre repair/replacment
Tools - overview of tools required and use of them including torque wrenches

Intermediate

Drivetrain removal and fitting
Bottom Brackets - servicing, and replacing, including hollowtech I/II, square taper, isis and splined
Headsets - replacement and removal plus servicing and adjusting (headsets and aheadsets)
Hubs - servicing, adjustment and bearing replacement
Wheels - truing/replacing spokes

No prior knowledge of bike maintenance is assumed and since the day is completely hands on so please bring your own bike with you.
